Thoughts on Social Media in Today’s World.

Millie:  Ugh…this life….I just want it to be simpler.

Me: Not with all this technology.

Millie: I don’t know if that’s helping or hurting.

Me:  It’s too much knowledge, that is actually hurting us.  Social media is the biggest disaster.

Millie: Yea, I agree with that.

Me: That’s why i cant do it with the IG and FB, I shouldn’t know about whats going on with people who add no value to me and no one should get free access to my life.  You earn that by being someone special or close to me.  Social media leaves you without a guard up, in turn, there is no value on building on a relationship because you don’t need to make the effort.  For example, my mother would be satisfied by seeing my pictures, knowing my status updates and would never feel the need to miss me or feel like she’s missing something.  Why would I give the ease of justifying her negligence?  Same thing with any relationship.

Millie:  I guess i never thought of it that way.  I was just thinking in terms of providing more opportunities for people to be sneaky assholes.

Me:  The problem i feel with today’s society is… there are no boundaries, no secrets and abundance of opportunities to get information you’re looking for without ever having to go to the source and that goes for anything.  Someone might be IN LOVE WITH YOU, look at your pics everyday, knows everything about you but you will never know because he doesn’t need to tell you,  He can just click here and click there.  Without this shit.. men cud be gentlemen, women would be mysterious and you wouldn’t know about the last 10 years of exes!

Millie:  You just made shit real.  lol

Me:  It’s sad but true, that’s why i choose to stay out of sight.

Me: That’s why in the past, such as, I could get a random text asking me how I was doing and have an hour-long conversation about what I am up to from someone i don’t see and has no idea what i have actually been up too who might tell me I am pretty because that’s how he or she remembers me not because of the images i forced on someone’s feed.

Millie:  i have zero argument for your points. lol

Me:  lol

Millie:  They’re all 100% spot on.

Me:  I think about this stuff a lot.

Millie: I’ve never considered that and i don’t think that many people ever have.

Me:  Lol.  No one thinks of that!!!  Because society wants you to believe that social media unites people but it only gives them more of reason to never go beyond mediocre to get what they want,   if something is easy, you’re not winning,  you’re cheating somewhere and there are always repercussions

Millie: You need to post this theory somewhere.

Me: My blog?  No one will listen, no one wants to believe that, everyone wants life to be just that simple.

Millie: I just think it needs to be out there, write it on a piece of paper and staple it to a telephone pole.  You know, to further make your point. lol

Millie: I think they’re such good points and I’ve never heard anyone speak about social media that way.

Me:  Really??

Millie: Yea.  Like I’ve heard reasons why its bad but never those reasons.

Werd… [Daily Prompt: 2100]

The language of the future: what will it be like? Write an experimental post using some imagined vocabulary — abbreviations, slang, new terms.  Photographers, artists, poets: show us FUTURE.  via Daily Prompt: 2100.

I have this funny feeling that we will have reverted back to pen and paper because technology will have outdone itself and imploded causing us to lose it and struggle to rebuild.

I will be about 105 years of age.  Hopefully, floating among the clouds in complete bliss and spooking the crap out of my grandchildren as a ghost.

As far as “imagined vocabulary” if the words like “sexting” and “OMG” are being officially added to our dictionary now, there is not much more left to the imagination, we have completed accepted that language is not important enough to have respect for its actual words.  We write and speak with abbreviations because we don’t have the time to tell the truth.

The Simple Life [Daily Prompt: Life After Blogs]

Your life without a computer: what does it look like?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us WITHOUT.

via Daily Prompt: Life After Blogs.

Generally, life without a computer looks amazing.  There are more jobs available for the people because the lack of technology to diminish their opportunities and hinder their skills.  The economy is better.  The divorce rate is lower.  Kids are playing OUTSIDE again.

As much as I love to blog and love that I have an opportunity to reach out to anyone who has a computer, an internet connection and a need to read, I think I would be just as thankful to have a pen in hand, writing on those floppy light sheets that they used to call paper.  Thing is, I write in a physical journal.  I have done it for 21 years now and though I have started before computers were popular and necessary, I still enjoy it just the same after computers have arrived, transformed to laptops, cell phones, smartphones and tablets.

I think generations born after me and especially the recently born, will not know what life is like without internet and computers.  I think they will be lost if ever it were to disappear.  Having ample amounts of access to everything can and will interfere with a person’s natural instinct to survive based on their ability to problem solve without all the answers at the edges of their fingertips.

Frankly, there are many downsides to having computers be the main focus of our existence because it subtracts are abilities to be independent and can interfere will survival overall when a crisis occurs.  Of course with every negative there is also a positive.  So, I am sure I don’t need to say how computers have improved our lives overall with all the technology that saves lives and keeps us a step ahead in many aspects.  Please don’t take this to mean that I am against the “computer”.  Simply put, there are the ups and downs.  Computers solve a lot of problems for us but they create new problems that probably couldn’t have occurred without their existence.

One thing is for sure, I am confident that I would be just fine without it especially because the first 14 years of my life, I was without and I wish everyday that I could go back.

100 Years [Daily Prompt: From the Collection of the Artist]

It’s the year 2113. A major museum is running an exhibition on life and culture as it was in 2013. You’re asked to write an introduction for the show’s brochure. What will it say?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us RETROSPECTIVE.

via Daily Prompt: From the Collection of the Artist.

Call me cynical but I don’t feel like life will  become any more glamorous in 2113 than 2013.  I only see humanity falling into more self-destruction.

Let’s go back to 1913, shall we?  Women standing here at the National Woman’s Party of the United States.  Strong woman fighting for a cause, fighting for their equal rights and using their minds and soul to will the inevitable.

Now we fast forward to 2013.  Here we have girls who look barely legal  in Atlantic City, New Jersey, dressed in their underwear.  I mean underwear.  IMG_6998[1]This picture doesn’t even justify the attire as to the lack of clothing I had actually seen in person.  There was no sign of intelligence or equality that those women had fought long and hard for nearly 100 years ago.  The strength and sophistication had been lost on molly’s, alcohol and other upper substances.  I saw young girls that had lost their self-respect and the value of their souls and bodies, just to booty clap in high thongs and pasties on stage to receive the attention that they probably yearned for as a child.

I can’t imagine life for anyone to improve in 100 years from now unless we mentally crash and burn.  The only solution would be to start from scratch.  I see 2113 as having more technology, more division among people and that fact will be hidden by the goal and assumption that social media is and will bring us closer together.  The more we know about each other, the more information that is accessible to us only gives us more drama to play around with. Causing more issues between us.

I fear what it will be like 100 years from now but luckily I will be 128 years old and probably sitting in the clouds watching from above.  Hopefully our children and their children will have more sense than the generations before them.

Stat Check

Daily Prompt: The Stat Connection.

Go to your Stats page and check your top 3-5 posts. Why do you think they’ve been successful? Find the connection between them, and write about it.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us CONNECTIONS.

What makes a person connect to your post?  This is a question I have asked myself every time I publish a new post.  I look at the top 5 posts of all time and I notice 4 out of 5 are short, straight forward and to the point.  So I wonder is the simplicity and summary of my thoughts more appealing than a post where I elaborate in further detail.

Each post is of a different topic.  I don’t see how its content correlates with each other in that aspect.

I have referred to this before that the posts I feel really good about, the ones that just have come perfectly together don’t even get “liked” or viewed and these are the posts I pour myself into.  I have tested it out a few times too and it always seems that the posts that are straight to the point are viewed and liked more.

I don’t know how to make these successful connections.  I don’t really know my audience and it might be because I don’t have a specific theme to my blog.  I write about the things I feel and think about it.  My blog is not specifically about cooking, fashion, sports, celebrities, etc.  It is about my thoughts, views, experiences, memories and just about everything a real person will and can go through.  I take pride in having my audience being able to identify themselves with my story, to my view or to my memory.   I want to make you think about you when you read about me.

So, I don’t know how my top posts correlate with each other.  I don’t really know how one measures success.  All I know is I am thankful for all of those readers and writers who have stopped by, read a post, left some feedback and hit the like button.  So thank you and come back soon.

Why Did You Modernize Me? [Daily Prompt: 21st Century Citizen]

Daily Prompt: 21st Century Citizen.

Do you belong in this day and age? Do you feel comfortable being a citizen of the 21st-century? If you do, explain why — and if you don’t, when in human history would you rather be?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us MODERN.

In this day and age, I feel I don’t quite fit in.  I think I would have been better off hanging out at the local jazz joints in Hoboken with Frank Sinatra and running around in my Tomboy clothes as a kid.

Today, we have so much technology to diminish our creativity and problem solving skills.  We rely on the internet and the cell phones to provide information, answers and to fill in the gaps when we are feeling less than full.  I want to go back to a time where we relied on the mind to find a solution, where there was a great feeling of fulfillment when you built knowledge and you were able to figure out something without anyone or anything’s assistance.

I want to go back to a time where life was lived without  a constant judging audience.  When people lived in small towns and worked hard to leave and make something of themselves.  A time when the dollar was valued, breaking a sweat was measured and there wasn’t a show we had to put on for others to see.  It was just me with my imperfections, no plastic surgery and no one risking all they have for vanity or fame.

Marilyn was the first sex symbol and she is wearing a one piece swimsuit.  Now sexy is tattooed nakedness.  It is gross.  At least being sexy back then, even though scandalous, it was still so damn classy.

Women have really come along way but most of the time I feel like they a few flights away from their demise.  Take a step back, try to remember that time when a man respecting you and pining over you to make his wife was SEXY!  Don’t think because a guy grabs your ass in a bar where you are half-dressed is hot or means he respects you because respect has been lost in the shuffle and actually this time men are not to blame.  We have taken it to far and we need to travel back to the road of classy, the island of respect and the pond of sexy.

I want to go back to the time when sex appeal was a dress and red lipstick.
